Physical Education Family Challenge
After playing some crazy PE activities with my family in our living room, I thought to myself how can I get other families to enjoy this same excitement.
I created a resource called, PE Emergency Kit for students who were injured/out of PE to work on so they didn't just sit on the bleachers like zombies. It was a fun way for them to think, use their bodies safely away from the rest of the class in limited space environment. I felt empathy for those students and imagined what it would be like doing nothing as they watched others bask in the glory of Physical Education!
I applied the concept from that resource into Physical Education Family Challenge as a way to share my craziness with other students and their families in my school.
The concept is pretty simple, but powerful. I built an activity guide packed with activities that students and their family could do in the comfort of their own homes. The activities require critical thinking, moving, laughing, and most importantly helping parents get exercise with their kids. What a perfect recipe for family together time! No technology, no television, just a container (I use a kid doctor container- you know....the one that clips and has all doctor toys in it that I got at a garage sale) filled with fun, engaging, and meaningful challenges.
I included a binder filled with the instructions, challenges, and resources as well as all the equipment needed. I then select a deserving student (or student who I think needs it the most) and then I make a huge deal out of them being selected.
I am very proud of what I have created and I would highly encourage you to create your own that works for you or enjoy my creation to use with your school. It also comes with family challenge certificates that they get to keep once they have completed the challenge together. They take a picture of their accomplishment and I post it in the gym to build it up even more!
Showing 1 household at a time the power and importance of Health and Physical Education!
(Plus we are getting parents to exercise too!)
