The PE Shop
This activity is an amazing way to integrate Fitness, Math, and PE fun together at the same time. Basically, students exercise/perform fitness moves to earn money. You determine the exercise and amount earned, ex- $1 for 10 Burpees. Students accumulate as much money as they'd like during a set amount of time and they decide the exercises and how hard they want to work. Once the time is up, the students count the money earned and they then can purchase various PE equipment to use during the class or during a set amount of time that you decide as well, ex- Basketball costs $100. Students can work together to pool their money, or purchase equipment they are interested in using (can you say disguised exercise). With a few minutes left, I will also offer SALES and cut the amount of exercises so they can earn more money, (Ex- $1 for 5 Burpees). Talk about watching students go nuts to get the last few bucks. At the culmination of the earning time, I then offer money off items if they can name me bones, muscles, components of health and skill related fitness and other PE assessments.
All this magic from 1 awesome activity involving play money! This activity is awesome because it allows students to decide how they want to exercise, has them working towards goals they have to earn, and most importantly getting exercise while having fun.
