Understanding in J210
I attended a training the other day titled, "Safe & Positive Approaches®" that focused on understanding and recognizing behavior in order to deliver crisis prevention and intervention-based training to students in need. While we were learning the material for the 3-day course, we learned about something called de-escalation and utilizing de-escalation tools. The goal of these tools are to act as a guide on how to anticipate, observe, and minimize negative behaviors and most importantly to help others. I immediately found power in the concept and started jotting down notes. Jotting down thought is more powerful than we sometimes think. I found value in the what I had learned and I wanted to find a way to apply it to my own life.
I didn't need someone else helping me with my own behavior....
What I needed was to learn how to apply these strategies on myself!
My thought was that if I could identify what brought out the worst in me and how it impacted my immediate behavior, I would be able to have set solutions in place to bring out the best. Can you tell that I am Type-A?
The three parts included:
1. Triggers (Problems in my life that are stopping me from happiness)
2. Warning Signs (Behaviors that I am exhibiting because of them)
3. Calming Strategies (What can I do to solve them)
My triggers, like anyone's triggers are deeply associated with expectations, reality, and fantasy. What I mean by that is, we all want our lives to be a certain way, however the way we want them and the way they don't always align. We are all looking for happiness, however some of us find it in different ways. Think about the scenario below involving three people all in search of happiness.
A person depositing money at a bank
(saved money= build security/have options= feel safe= be happy!)
A bank teller working at a bank
(have job/purpose= make money=earn living to purchase things/experiences=be happy!)
A person robbing a bank
(rob bank= make money=buy freedoms/possessions=be happy!)
They all connect back to happiness! They also connect to money, however I truly believe that you can achieve happiness without money, but only after your basic needs of life are met!
Bottom line is that we don't always find happiness, but everything we do in our lives is in search of it! Connect that back to triggers and you will begin to understand deeper about what problems are in your way when finding it.
What are some triggers in your life that you can begin to identify?
What behaviors are you demonstrating because of your problems? Do you get angry, frustrated, or short with people? What type of impact does this have on your own well-being and on your relationships? We all know ourselves better than anyone, however why do we sometimes ignore or miss signs that are so blatantly obvious to everyone but us?
This is the step where we have the most power because we have the choice to control our behavior through our actions. We must be aware of our own behaviors in order to adjust them. We must slow things down in our lives to listen to our bodies and to hear what they are telling us.
What are you feeling right now? How does your body feel? Heavy or light? Alive or tired? On top of the world or barely hanging on?
More importantly why are you feeling these things?
What actions are you going to take to ultimately listen to your warning signs and quiet your triggers? This is the part where you decide the wolf you are going to feed! The decisions you make at this step are either going to build you up or break you down.
The choices you make today are ultimately going to impact your tomorrows and we all know this. However, a lot of us choose the wrong solutions that we think will fix our underlying problems because they are easier, and provide us with an instantaneous satisfaction. We get a small sense of happiness and we pounce on it, however when the dust settles we realize we are sitting on top of the same problems we had before.
That is why the strategies we choose are so important to not only our current situations, but to our future!
Do the things you do bring you happiness and a sense of feeling better long after they are finished? If the answer is no, then they aren't the right solutions. You must begin to determine if they are the easier choices? Do you do them to escape or enhance your life? Are they making you stronger or weaker?
In these decisions, you will hopefully find solutions that allow you to take the upper hand on your problems!
We all have problems, we all have issues, we all have choices. Once we accept ourselves and all that comes with ourselves we can begin to identify, address, and overcome whatever stands in our way!
Sometimes the triggers are out of our control, sometimes we can't immediately fix behaviors, and sometimes we magnify our problems by making the wrong choices. However, our future is happening right now and you just have to make the decision you want to live the best life you can.
You have to understand that you deserve happiness!

Sometimes we need to be in a random room to connect our random thoughts to powerful concepts. That's all this was. It's about understanding that sometimes life gets complicated when it doesn't need to be and that we all have the same problems and solutions.
Take it easy on yourself so you can slow things down to listen and let the answers just come!
How exercising is like investing
I am really into investing and I am equally interested in exercise. I have spent a significant amount of my life experiencing both. Early this morning around 4:30 a.m. (spring forward is brutal adjustment in the Clark household) I had an epiphany how similar investing/money and exercise/staying active actually are.
Hold on as I take you inside of one of my thought tsunamis!
I hope you can feel the power that both investing and exercise can have once you are done.
Time over money
Let me preface this entire thought with the fact that you have the ability to make an infinite amount of money in your lifetime through hard work, intelligence, and luck. On the flip side, you are given a finite amount of time and life on this planet. Investing/Money and Exercise are similar because you need to move in life to survive and grow. We also know that exercise has the potential to lengthen your life (giving you bonus time). We all realize that we need money to survive, and it costs money to do the things that make you happy (not always). The quality of life and your life’s experiences can be enhanced with exercise/being active and can be sustained with the freedom that money provides. Always place more value your time! "The rich invest in time, the poor invest in money." -Warren Buffet
Why is the answer
Why do they both matter? Both require a strong introspective approach into the importance of each to you. Basically, what is your why? Why do you want to exercise? Why do you want to be financially free? Then the how comes into play. How can I stay active and healthy? How can I reach my financial goal? What do I need to do to reach this healthy lifestyle? What investments can make my money work for me? Then, naturally you will make the when and the where work through trial and error, determination, and consistency. Once you figure out your why and learn about the how’s and the what’s then you slowly begin lead them into your where and when! Remember that every journey starts with a destination of where you want to go. Where do you want to go with your fitness and finance?
They have to be done!
You can’t afford not to do them. It’s that simple! Your health and vitality depend on being active and your money is always being attacked by inflation. No one can live forever, and riches are often lost from generation from generation. The stories of your physical/mental greatness that you will earn from exercising and sacrifice will live on inside your grandchildren. The wealth you establish for your family will allow them a life of choice instead of restriction. What stories will they tell about you?
Where do I start?
Sometimes too many options freeze you in the headlights of life. There are so many ways to invest (stocks, bonds, ETF’s, real estate, commodities). There are also so many ways to exercise (walking, weight training, playing sports, yoga) that it can be overwhelming at times to know where to start. The key is to start yesterday for both! Start slow, stay positive, and keep learning. Remember you can never win a race that you aren't in. So put your foot to the line, take a deep breath and believe!
The first steps
Anytime you take on a new journey there will be bumps, hills, and feelings of natural and healthy fear. When you begin either you are nervous, apprehensive, and fearful that you might get injured/lose money. Both are directly connected with emotion and that is the amazing thing about both. Exercising is an amazingly natural way to feel good and when done correctly the satisfaction/comfort of your investments and financial freedom can give you a high like no other. Find ways to associate them both with enjoyment and positive feelings and you will find yourself doing them with ease. Also, remember fear is just “False Evidence Appearing Real!”
Are you the car or thimble?
There is no one-size fit all approach with either Exercise/Investing. We all have different bodies/minds, genetics, and experiences when it comes to health and fitness. In investing, we all start off on different places on the board game of life. Some of us start with less/more money, vastly different understandings and experiences, and most importantly experiences/connections/perceptions of how money is used, spent, and saved. I am a strong believer that with hard work, sacrifice, and luck we can set ourselves up to pass go and thrive in financial game of life. Remember that where you start in life doesn't have to be where you finish. "If you are born poor, it's not your mistake. But if you die poor, it's your mistake." -Bill Gates
Automation is key
It is so vital to make time for each and it is quintessential to make them both automatic and part of your routine. Life is hard enough. Why make it harder with things that can be made simpler? Successful (saving money) and investing should be built into your personal finance routine and exercise (being active) needs to be a natural part of everyday. Habits take time to create so take a little help set yourself up for success with very useful technology of automation. You will need all the help you can get when it comes to this sustained effort. Use a system that works for you because ultimately you know your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to organization, overcoming tasks and commitment.
Cost vs. Price
You don’t always have to pay for what you deserve. High and hidden fees and broker commissions will eat away at your gains and high gym memberships and unnecessary fitness equipment will do the same. Both aren’t always necessary to achieving optimal physical fitness and solid returns. Be smart with who you invest in and with and be smart about where you stay active. A lot of the best things in life are the simpler things and I am beginning to find this to be the case with investing (ETF’s) and exercising (body weight and outdoors).
Truth in numbers
My favorite concept is the fact that the truths of both are simple, clear, and honest. The results don’t lie! Your losses/gains of an investment tell the truth. Your weight, race times, weights lifted also tell the same story. With that being said, every day is a new day and each morning bell is a new page in each book. The key is to keep writing pages and not to close the book and quit. Let the truth motivate and not deter you. They should keep you accountable, but more importantly hungry. I would also highly recommend keeping track of both in order to show you progress, growth, and to reflect back on both adventures. I am a huge fan of note cards when it comes to tracking workouts and my go to is Personal Capital for tracking all my investments.
Adapt to survive
“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” applies to the simple point of not putting all of your money into one single investment. It’s kind of ironic we do this when it comes to love. Make sure this is the best investment you make in your life! It also applies to exercising and not performing the same exercise/routine all the time. This can be easily corrected by diversifying your money into various investment vehicles (stocks, mutual funds, ETF’s, real estate, commodities, bonds, etc.). With exercise, in order to grow and get healthier and stronger it is paramount to cross-train, add variety and different work-outs/exercises into your routines, and also challenge yourself to try new things. My only advice is to be a little more adventurous with your workouts and not your investing accounts!
Rest is when you grow
Your body and mind need breaks. So does your wallet and money. Factor in built-in breaks/time off to give your body/mind/emotions a rest. When you over train you run the risk of injury, burnout and stress. The same goes for constantly check on your investments and ticker symbols. This will lead to panic selling and fearful buying in investing. Trust the process and remember rests are necessary. When we rest, we grow.
Own your journey
No one will care more about your health/money than you will! There comes a point where you have to take ownership of your own fitness, your own investing, and your own life! Always remember that! You are the one doing the exercises and putting in the hard work. You are the one deciding where to put your money so it will work while you sleep. Always be accountable, responsible, and continue to find ways to learn from your mistakes and your successes. Think, learn, and grow.
What will define you?
Name me one specific memory that can sum who you are. You can’t because you are a culmination of your beliefs, experiences, and values. You will get knocked down with both. You will see a lot of days of your money in the red (hopefully not more than you see green)! You will have great workouts that make you feel immortal. You will feel unstoppable when you take profits! However, remember not to let one single workout experience/investment define you. It is just a small step in the race of becoming your healthiest and wealthiest self! Don’t be myopic! Be perspicacious!
Content vs. Contentment
As you get more seasoned and father time makes his rounds, you will slowly begin to listen to your body and to your mind. You will learn how to train smarter, not harder/protect your money from unnecessary risks/loss. With that life experience you will learn to be more thankful and appreciative you can do the simpler things in life that some people can’t. Like walk, live on your own, and still have the ability to positively impact others in amazing ways while you still have a working body. You will also learn to appreciate the potential and value in money and more importantly be able to have the guaranteed savings/income you have worked your whole life to earn. Which battle will win? Content vs. contentment. My wife and I have major discussions about this area of life! I think we are actually arguing the same thing, but at this point who knows!
Exercise and Investing should be taught to your children (for those of you that have them) at an early age so you can engrain positive habits that they will thank you for it later in life. Tell them the stories of your knowledge, failures and successes. Show them the power that exercise can have on their bodies and minds. Watch them in awe as you explain the power of compounding interest to them for the first time. These are the stories that will bring it all to life and that you can share with them just like you would bedtime stories. It might actually put them to bed a little quicker!
Never give up
There will be days you want to quit both because they are too time consuming, too stressful, and too hard. But, if you stay the course you will see amazing things happen with both. The greatest rewards wait for those who can stay the course. Those who can remain patient and calm. Those who can fight through the hard workouts/losses will ultimately be victorious. What will happen if you stay the course?
Keep your emotions at the door
Investing and exercising involve a plethora of emotions. Use common sense, protect your emotions and think logically. When you are in the middle of a great workout or in the process of making an investment you get a rush, a feeling of excitement and accomplishment. However, if you are having a bad workout or you make a bad investment you get a feeling of failure, anger, and disgust. Funny how quickly they can change in either direction. Stop, and learn to act and not react to either. Keep your emotions in check and keep looking at the big picture with both.
No easy way out
Be fearful of quick fixes, gains, and profits when it comes to either. Supplements, gurus and fitness crazes (shake weights- enjoy the workout) aren’t going to last long and improve the overall longevity and the quality of your life. Neither will always listening and trusting every financial expert, making speculative risky investments, and what I sometimes find myself doing…experiencing FFOMO (Financial Fear of Missing Out). Remember in both- “There is no elevator for success, you have to take the stars!
Slow and steady
“Everybody wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die.” Doing the physical work with exercise and putting your money in safe investments aren’t always glamorous, fun or sexy, however they will give you a higher quality of life, put you at peace, and also give you a feeling of accomplishment. I believe that true happiness is something that sustains itself long after the event has taken place (vacation, memory, quality time with friends/family doing fun adventures) and not that instant gratification we get from buying stuff that we don’t always need. Close your eyes and think about what makes you happy and I bet you it has something to do with an experience, memory, or adventure.
When both worlds align
Over time, with patience, perseverance, and consistency you will be amazed at the results. You will also increase your chances of a longer life, since studies have shown a strong correlation between exercise and longevity. There will also be wealth in your future since the power of compounding interest will take you on the path to financial freedom. You will have your health, your wealth! The universe will be yours for the taking and you can live the life you want instead of one that is already chosen for you. Now you just need to find and keep happiness! I will need another sleepless night to help solve that one!
Bitmojis in the Building!
I was walking down the hallway one day and something caught my eye on a teacher's door.
I was instantly intrigued and my creative juices started flowing! I had to have one!
A few days later my bitmoji was ready and brought to life on my gym doors for my students to see!

It is amazing how a little creativity can enrich and brighten up a school, an environment, a school culture!

On the other side of Fear!
First, Happy 2019 to everyone!
It has been a little while since my last post. I guess I was waiting to gain some new meaningful life experiences or maybe I was just a little busy with teaching, family, and life away from the site. In any case, I am back to post about a recent adventure that I had. An adventure that should make some of you laugh, but more importantly share what I learned to inspire and motivate.
Like most people, I have a major fear of getting blood drawn. I know, I know it is pathetic. Over the course of my life, anytime blood has been involved it has ultimately led me to passing out in elevators, passing out near college infirmaries, and most recently knocking myself out during one of my wife's pediatric visits. That time I wasn't even the patient. I guess that is a testament to how much I love my wife!
My whole life I have had this debilitating fear that causes me to sweat profusely, become dizzy and disoriented, and bring me to my lowest and weakest point where my strength, power, and masculinity are stripped. It is not a place I like to be at all because it exposes me in a way that makes me feel like a failure.
With a brand new year, come new motivations, new expectations, and new challenges that we all set for ourselves. As 2018 began to wind down, I thought to myself what could I do to improve myself? What could I accomplish? I took out my stack of blank note cards (I write everything on note cards) and I wrote a few new challenges. Run a local 10 miler, a hometown 18 miler, and eventually complete my 1st marathon was on the list. Tell more stories and be more playful with my kids were also on the list. Less technology and more reading were on there too. As I started to write these things out, I stopped and thought to myself there was still something missing. It was something that I wanted to forget about forever and never include on any of my lists, but I knew deep down it had to go on the top.
I immediately pulled up the local lab testing facility website and looked up availability. My wife must have seen me pacing the room so she knew that something was up. I put my head down, took a few deep breaths, and told her my plan. Once I uttered what I was doing I knew the universe would hold me accountable and my wife would nonchalantly follow-up with me until the appointment. Since it was the holiday season, I knew my options would be limited. I scrolled and looked at each day and time trying to convince myself I didn’t need it done. I stopped the cursor on December 31st at 7:15 because there was something special about that date
There was something impactful and meaningful knowing it would be the last day of the year. The powerful message that I would be sending to myself, that I could overcome my fear the day before a new year. Talk about really overcoming something. Doing it even sooner than you wanted. I locked in my day and time and immediately shut the computer. I slowly walked over to my phone to add it to my calendar as, “The Day I Overcome my Fear” so the message was really echoed to the universe!
From that point on, there wasn’t a day that I didn’t think, worry, or even contemplate cancelling the appointment. I knew that this routine and necessary procedure was more than that. It was about defeating a fear that I gave power to. It was about preaching what I teach to my own children. It was something I had to do, and more importantly on my own.
The night before I was up throughout the night really stressing about it all. The whole process became even more heavy and draining since I would have to fast for what seemed like an eternity (especially to a guy that eats every 2 hours with a metabolism like a furnace). I had 2 choices, to play out the worst scenarios of me being passed out in a medical office with them calling my wife to come and get me as I would have to hear her secretly laughing and my kids looking at as “Their Dad” or I could embrace the fact that everything was going to be fine and that this wouldn’t define me any longer. The choice was mine, however the human mind is a very powerful thing! We all experience this in our lives. We imagine the absolute worst of what scares us and we try to control it all so it doesn’t control us. It is truly amazing how powerful our mind and thoughts can be.
In any case, I knew this would only be an internal battle for a few more hours because 7:15 would be coming whether I liked it or not.
I woke up ready to attack my moment. I quietly kissed my sleeping wife goodbye, made sure not to wake my well-rested children, made my way downstairs, grabbed my car keys and paperwork, got in my car, and began the start of my adventure into the early darkness of the morning. I blasted my stereo and kept looking at the clock visualizing an hour from that moment. When it would all be over.
My car pulled into the lot and it was time. I opened the door, got out and I knew there was no turning back. I already thought about sneaking to the diner for some pancakes (I love pancakes), but knew that wasn’t an option I would accept on the last day of the year. I opened the door, started the process of checking in and found myself a seat. During that time, my name went up on the TV monitor with a countdown of how long it would be until it was my turn. Amazing how much thinking a man can think about within 2 minutes. I sat in the seat and reflected on my life and my fear. I thought positive thoughts as I began to embrace the experience and the beauty in what I was doing.
There were 3 vampires, I mean phlebotomists (never understood why someone would want to do that career and I still don’t) in at that time. I was really hoping to avoid the zombie-looking man since I knew it would only add to my uneasiness. The Blood Gods must have heard my call and a young, vibrant nurse came to greet me. Each step I took with her back to the blood-draining area was filled with determination, confidence, and pride.
The clock ticked, my blood was drawn, and my fear slowly died in that room. Everything was done and I felt a sense of accomplishment. I immediately thought of a quote that I had read that was the most fitting for my moment. “Everything you ever wanted is just on the other side of fear”. This was the truth. It was my truth on the last day of December 2018! I walked outside and was met by an amazing New Jersey winter morning sunrise (the picture you see). I smiled as I appreciated its beauty, got in my car, stopped at the bagel store to grab my family breakfast (almost like the way a predator would bring a prize kill home). I walked into my house feeling like a new man.
I had overcome my fear! If I can, you can! You see everything we need is already inside of us. Bravery, courage, determination, it is all inside. We just need the belief that we can bring it out. We just need to trust that everything is going to be ok and to quiet the voices in our head that keeps yelling at us. We need to learn not to listen. We must replace them with a voice that reverberates throughout our bones. We can be our own worst villains, but we can also be our own superheroes.

The PE Escape Challenge
I went to an Escape room with some work friends last school year and I wanted to bring the same experience to my students.
Talk about a cooperative activity!
Talk about a way to get people talking, working together, critically thinking, and sharing an awesome experience.
The only thing I wanted more of during my own experience was more movement and more fitness!
I let my thoughts begin to circulate and I immediately began jotting down thoughts and ways to connect it to the world of Physical Education. I also searched online to see where to begin or as I learned, where to end! I stumbled across this awesome article by We Are Teachers that can help you create your very own as well. During this creative exploration I began to connect this to that. To design and build that for this. It all started to connect like a puzzle!

I had just finished putting my son to bed and I went back downstairs to check a notification that I had heard on my phone during the 4 hour ordeal.
I receive a lot of TPT notifications on my phone throughout the day (questions, feedback, etc.) so I thought nothing of it and started to open it up so I could promptly respond.
What I opened was the most powerful message someone has sent me regarding one of my resources. It read....
"It's been a few years since we did Jump Rope for heart, but one of the staff died of a heart attack this summer, so I think we'll do it again and you've just helped ensure it's an easy and great event. Thank You"

You want to talk about inspiration and validation for all the hours and energy I spend towards creating new and innovative resources to reach as many educators and students I can!
That feedback is what inspires me.
It is what drives me!
You see, I have no idea who that person is or even what that particular school went through with the loss of a colleague, teacher and friend.
But what I do know is that I have experienced too many losses of great people at my school.
If just one of my resources could even help a few people, a few students, a community of humans then I am living a life that makes me smile!
So as you enter a new school year (for those educators reading) or a new day (for anyone reading).....

The Crazy Clark's have been having an amazing summer (sorry for a little blog hiatus), but with all of our summer excitement, lately we have paid a price.
We haven't been having the best sleep. It's most likely due to a hectic summer schedule, a new environment for the past couple of weeks, and a handful of other kid induced variables! (All of a sudden our kids are scared of zombies in the middle of the night!)
The other night I suddenly awoke at 2:30 and couldn't drift back to sleep using my normal go-to of the 4-7-8 breathing method (I highly recommend giving it a try) so I decided to turn my phone back on (I shut it off right before bed) to see what was going on in my digital world.
My wife must have sent me an email right before I shut my phone off titled, "Parents who are addicted to their cell phones affect their children's development." I had nothing else to do so I opened it up to be enlightened.
Wow! I never really made the connection of cell phone usage as second hand smoking, but to our children's brains. Really makes you think about every little aspect of parenting.
Technology is an amazing gift to our world, but it also comes with a hefty price sometimes. Just like being on a constant summer adventure!
Kind of ironic that I am on the computer now and that you might be reading it!
In any case, I hope you gained something from The Article and I am now signing off to go deep into the woods to kayak with no technology. I recommend you put your technology down and escape for a little as well!
Wish us luck on our kayaking adventure and hopefully there won't be anything else that will cause our kids to wake in the middle of the night!
How do you roll?
This past weekend I surprised my wife with tickets to see Florida Georgia Line at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City. What an amazing show and night!
As I watched the show in amazement, I couldn't help but think about how much fun they looked like they were having. The energy, the passion, and the excitement they brought to the crowd was inspirational. I am sure my students feel the same way when I begin teaching!
I couldn't help but think about the risk they took to get to that pinnacle moment. It must have taken huge sacrifices, ups and downs (actually a great song by their opener Morgan Wallen), and an unwavering commitment and determination to make it all happen.
I am sure it started with a vision, stayed a live with hard work, and culminated with luck along the way. "The harder you work the luckier you get" is what my middle school baseball coach used to say!
That is what we all should be doing in our lives. Embracing our vision, working hard to make it happen, and getting lucky along the journey!
It's about doing whatever it takes to get to "Our Moment" on the stage of life.

Finding something that brings us to a moment of pure nirvana.
The problem is that everything else gets in the way of it all (bills, comfort, doubt, and probably the most common thing...FEAR)

Believing, challenging yourself, and doing what the quotes say...will!
Take that small step, take that large leap, but no matter what keep taking moves towards what makes you feel every beat of your heart!

In any case, I opened one of these life-changing emails, scanned through to see if anything caught my eye and was immediately drawn to an article titled, " Got 5 Minutes? I want to Share 50 Life-Changing Lessons With you."
I began to read and instantly enjoyed the quick, meaningful, and witty writing. His views were spot on, blunt, and each thought had purpose. Most importantly I felt like he was going to be a man of his word with taking only 5 minutes of my time (like the title suggested). That was, until I got to #23!
"Realize That Everything Comes To An End"
Your good health, relationships, family, pet, business. We all know how things end. Just make sure you appreciate the things you still have. Before you know it, everything will be gone. And so will you."
Imagine eating steel cut oatmeal with walnuts, blueberries, and a drizzle of honey and reading this first thing in the morning. What an eye-opener. I mean we all know this is going to happen, but for some reason the way he worded it really struck a chord with me.
The subtle wording of "appreciate the things you still have" is somehow meant to console you a little, however the last sentence definitely delivers the final reality punch straight to your day.
I took a few seconds to regroup and continued through the rest of his article, but nothing engrained in my mind as strong as #23.
Surprisingly, I was able to use it as inspiration throughout my day and I plan to really make it a point to remember #23 every morning. It opened my eyes to realize that even one of my worst days are still one of my best days. Sometimes we need to hear things as rough as possible to shake us and make us realize the big picture in this crazy thing we call life.
To run while we still can, to savor our children while they are still children, to put the phone down and really live in the moment. To do the things that bring us internal happiness.
We all should be celebrating in every small victory of our lives. Every breath we take, every up and every down of our life still means we we aren't at our end.
We aren't gone, we aren't at our ends, and we all still have life to live.
How are you going to live yours? #23 will find us all one day, but until it does.......

I came across the concept created and used by our 34th President, Dwight D. Eisenhower to help him make decisions and lead our country.
I immediately applied it to the world of education and have found it to be extremely useful when it comes to formulating and executing a solid teaching game plan and more importantly a life plan!
Being a teacher isn't just about teaching and students learning. It is about lesson plans, meetings, phone calls, emails, program adaptations, collaborations, observations, and professional growth. There is no map or set way to attack each day, however this chart will help you filter your thoughts/actions and help you prioritize anything and everything.
I highly recommend giving it a try in and out of the classroom to help you towards finding calmness in a world of chaos, more importantly in maximizing your time and life energy.
Mr. Clark's Energy Bites
I am always into eating as healthy as possible and also Saving Money whenever I can.
With that being said, I have been playing around with making my own granola bars to make them healthier with ingredients that I choose and also to avoid spending over $1.50 for each one.
Here is Mr. Clark's Energy Bite Ingredients
(feel free to adjust/change ingredients to your liking)
3 Cups of Rolled Oats
2 Tablespoons of Organic Peanut Butter
2 Tablespoons of Local Honey
1 Cup of Pitted Dates (helps with binding)
1 Cup of Walnut Halves
2 Tablespoons of Organic Dried Coconut
2 Tablespoons of Organic Chia Seeds
1 Tablespoons of Semi-Sweet/Dark Chocolate
Few sprinkles of Cinnamon
Makes about 20 Energy Bites
(probably more, but somehow I started them small and they got bigger. I never said I was a top-notch chef)
Place the dry ingredients in a large bowl
Microwave (30 seconds)
1 Cup of Pitted Dates
1 Cup of Walnuts
Combine and Mix
All the ingredients listed above (dry, microwaved and blended-up ingredients)
On cooking sheet, set up a piece of parchment paper and create your own
Energy bites/granola bars.
Place entire sheet in freezer so all the ingredients harden for a few hours.
Take out and place in a container inside your fridge.
Enjoy whenever you need an energy-boost!
Remember the beauty of the fire by the beauty of embers
When we are born, a small spark is lit within each of us. Our flame begin to flicker larger in different directions and sometimes smaller in others. As we live our lives, we begin to find "gasolines" that cause our fires to burn with the brightest and tallest flames. We slowly realize that WE control the tenacity of our flame. The heat that it gives off. The brightness to which it glows. The excitement and passion it builds to. And most importantly, it's reach! The potential to which it grows!
Life is about harnessing our flames and directing them in the most positive, and meaningful ways imaginable. It is about connecting our fires to others and building flames so strong that nothing can extinguish them fully. The older I get, the more I realize that one day the fire I built, the legacy I have created will all but be in the embers that remain. I wonder about what stories my embers will tell.....
